A: They’re all in the news this month from our friends at The Talking Farm.   Located at 701 Howard Street in Skokie (1/2 mile west of McCormick Blvd), The Talking Farm was founded as a way to reconnect Evanston and Skokie residents with the source of their food, to provide a local source of fresh, organic produce, and to educate and unite the community around one of our most basic and culturally important needs: The food we eat. Seedling Sales this Saturday at two convenient locations!

Just in time for Mother’s Day, it’s time to unleash our warm weather seedlings! We’ll finally have tomatoes (7 types), peppers (5 types), eggplant (2 types), cucumber, zucchini, cantaloupe, purple and green basil, thyme, rosemary, and other herbs available for sale, in addition to the other cool weather plants we’ve been selling thus far.  …Have we mentioned these are locally grown with organic methods? Can’t get that at the big box stores! (Note the different hours at each location!)

Hot Potatoes!

Want to try something new in your garden this year? In addition to selling regular ol’ seedlings, we’re selling seed potatoes! We have 5 colors for you to try: red, blue, yellow, white, and blush. Detailed instructions on growing potatoes are available here.

Collecting Coffee Grounds and Wheelbarrows

Next time you’re ordering your morning fix, do us a favor and ask the barista for any used coffee grounds you can take off their hands. We’re collecting as much as we can at our Farm to spread over our new soil. There is a black, wheeled garbage bin labeled “COMPOST” at the service drive of the Tot Learning Center (near the gravel road) at the Howard Street Farm where you can drive up and place bags of grounds right inside. Thanks for your help! While we’re at it, we could also really use some more wheelbarrows on the Farm. We’d love to give yours a new loving home if it’s collecting dust in your garage. Let us know, and we can pick it up!
