Stylish reinvention of space, and replacement of overgrown plantings with miniature savanna
The buyers of this mid-century modern located in Evanston’s Ridge Historic District were resolved to resurrect the charm of this little gem. We ripped out crowds of sheared yews which brought to light the home’s stunning fieldstone-veneered walls. After an upgrade of the dysfunctional drainage, the entire front landscape was overhauled under the guiding principle of restrained Zen: The geometry of generous concrete panels poured in place traverse a garden space defined by a large, hand-picked multi-stemmed hawthorn and hedges filled with orchestrated perennial color tickling the senses throughout the seasons and attracting multitudes of pollinators. Lawn was replaced by a sedge prairie.
