Greenwise partners with the Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse and the Kenilworth Clippers Garden Club to save and repurpose plants from deconstructed homes. This partnership helps reduce waste while providing community members with access to plants that would otherwise be destroyed.

The Problem We're Solving

When homes are deconstructed, the plant material often gets destroyed. The Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse came up with the idea of repurposing these plants rather than letting them go to waste. They partnered with Greenwise and the Kenilworth Clippers Garden Club to create a solution.

This partnership allows us to save plants from deconstructed homes and make them available to community members who can give them new homes in their own gardens. This approach reduces waste while supporting community gardening efforts.

Free Plant Giveaways

The partnership between Greenwise, the Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse, and the Kenilworth Clippers Garden Club has resulted in free plant giveaways where community members can come and dig up plants to take home. These events have been hugely successful, with gardeners lining up early to participate.

Plants available at these giveaways have included viburnum bushes, yews, ferns, hostas, wild strawberry plants, and vinca. All three groups are on-site during these events, helping gardeners identify plants and dig as needed.

Greenwise's Role

The Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse needed Greenwise to help haul away whatever plants were not dug up during the giveaways. We were happy to help, as this is exactly what we love: saving and repurposing plants so that as many plants as possible get used rather than thrown out.

Our role in this partnership allows us to support plant reuse and reduce waste while working alongside community organizations to provide a valuable service to gardeners.

Community Collaboration

This partnership demonstrates how community organizations can work together to solve problems and create positive outcomes. The Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse, Greenwise, and the Kenilworth Clippers Garden Club each bring different expertise and resources to this collaboration.

Working together allows us to accomplish more than any of us could alone, creating opportunities to save plants, reduce waste, and support community gardening efforts.

Environmental Benefits

Repurposing plants from deconstructed homes reduces waste while providing community members with access to plants for their gardens. This approach supports both environmental sustainability and community gardening efforts.

Greenwise is proud to partner with the Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse and the Kenilworth Clippers Garden Club to make this plant repurposing program possible, supporting both environmental goals and community needs.

Ongoing Partnership

This partnership continues with plant giveaways scheduled at various locations. Community members interested in participating in future plant giveaways can contact the Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse to be included on the mailing list.

Greenwise looks forward to continuing this partnership and supporting plant repurposing efforts that benefit both the environment and community members.
