Sustainable Solutions for a Timeless Mid-Century Home
With this project, we collaborated with a client seeking a sustainable approach to their landscape. To complement their mid-century modern home, we designed the landscape to mirror the clean lines of the architecture, softening the look with native plantings. The design incorporated a permeable gravel path and sitting area and replaced traditional turf in the backyard with a no-mow sedge lawn using native grasses.
This lawn alternative not only eliminates the need for mowing but also minimizes water, fertilizer, and weeding requirements as the lawn matures and the plants naturally outcompete weeds. In the front yard, we designed a more traditional aesthetic that blends with the neighborhood’s style. To minimize the project’s environmental impact, all hardscape materials, including gravel and pavers, were locally sourced.
