Meet Our Horticulturist
Moshe Pinargote is our new horticulturalist. Moshe will be working closely with you and our garden maintenance crews to enhance their expertise and help lead a program where we can better partner with you in maintaining your garden just the way you want it.
Moshe's extensive expertise includes working the last 19 years at the Chicago Botanic Gardens as their horticulturist and grower. His wealth of knowledge will be a tremendous asset to our Greenwise team.
Moshe has taught classes at the Botanic Gardens on trees, shrubs, annuals and even mathematics for horticulturists (you need math to ensure you don't over or underplant an area!).
"Lighten Our Footprint," the Greenwise mission, caught Moshe's eye. "My education as an agronomical engineer in Natural Resources and biological conservation aligns with the Greenwise mission and its environmental approach. I value using natives and locally sourcing our supplies, which means less pollution and reducing our greenhouse effect on the environment," says Moshe.
What’s your favorite plant?
I really like the Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) with its heart-shaped leaves that go from reddish-purple in the spring to apricot in the fall. I also love the Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum) for winter interest and its peeling bark.
I'm always trying to learn more about plants. I love plants and there's something to learn at each client's home I visit; always something new and I enjoy that.
How do you spend your free time?
I love to read--fiction and non-fiction. Right now, I'm reading a biography on Benjamin Franklin, but enjoy James Patterson and John Grisham for their fast-paced story lines. I swim as much as I can. I used to swim every day, and I love to play chess.
